John Bagot Hospital by John Bell Age 4, in 1959, sent to the John Bagot hospital in Havelock St, a "centre of excellence" for taking tonsils out! Parents had difficulty getting there because of the fog/smog (which was probably why we all had respiratory problems). I remember kind nurses, only being able to eat soggy cornflakes (yuk) and ice cream (hooray) in a ward of old guys with tracheotomies drinking Guinness through tubes! Still not sure what this operation (tonsilectomy) ever did for me! John Bell Enter your story Back to main stories page |
